The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dobi ward of Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, recently has suspended some members including a House of Representatives member from Abuja south constituency, Alhaji Zakari Angulu Dobi, over alleged anti-party activities in the area.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s office in Gwagwalada, the vice chairman of the APC in Dobi ward, Malam Ciroma Zagi, said the party’s ward executives decision to suspend Dobi was because of his anti-party posturing.
He said Dobi worked against the interest of the APC by supporting the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the council election in the area.
Zagi, who addressed the press in company of other ward executives of the party, alleged that the federal legislator refused to campaign for the APC candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, but openly campaigned for the APGA candidate, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, in the run up to the FCT election.
They further accused Dobi of allegedly masterminding the recent political crisis at Dobi village, which they said led to wanton destruction of property and killing of a security guard at the house of an APC chieftain at the village.
“we the APC ward executives of Dobi ward want to make it categorically clear that there is a lot of incontrovertible evidence we can tender when the need arises that our honorable member of the house of Representatives, Hon Zakari Angulu Dobi, has not only sponsored, but has openly campaigned and supported the APGA candidate, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, for the council election, for which we the Dobi ward executives, have resolved to suspend him, “they alleged.
They also said the actions of the leader of the APC run foul of article 21 page 2 of the party’s constitution, 2014, as amended.
Reacting to the allegations, Dobi, through a text message, wondered why the ward vice chairman of the party should be the one to say he was suspended, instead of the ward chairman.
“And what were his reasons or what does he mean by anti-party? What were his proof and stages of investigation on the receipt of the allegations before him, “he asked.
Dobi, urged the ward vice chairman of the party to know that there were due processes contained in the party constitution that must be obeyed and followed, before arriving at such decision.
He added, “and he must be ready to prove this in a court of law, if he insists on his decision.”
The suspension came barely three weeks after the House of Representatives member for Abuja South, Alhaji Zakari Angulu Dobi was suspended for the same reason. The letter of suspension was jointly signed by the APC chairman and secretary in the area, Alhaji Hussain Deze and Abdulwahad Yahaya, respectively.
The letter stated that the APC woman leader of the council Hajiya Hassana Abbas and Dobi ward chairman, Alhaji Hussain Sarki, were among those news report learnt that the suspension was based on petition written by the 10 wards chairman of the party dated April 21, 2016, alleging anti-party activities by the suspended members.
The letter stated that the area councils executive committee on April 24, 2016, set up a five-man fact finding committee which ‘found that all those suspended from their wards, including the chairmanship aspirant, Alhaji Garba Jibrin, and 90 others, openly engaged in anti-party activities in the just concluded council polls.
The party said that the report found that those suspended breached article 21 (A & B) and 21 (D) of the party’s constitution.
City News gathered that the ratification letter of suspension was also copied to the FCT chapter of the party.
However, the All Progressives Congress has gone to court to reclaim the Chairmanship seat it lost to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). In another development an APGA chiefdom told Peoples Times that are ready to defend the people’s mandate.
