A group under the aegis of “Stand Up For Benue Now” yesterday called for the inclusion of the state in the North East Development Commission, NEDC, as it was among states ravaged by insurgency.
Leader of the group, Mr. Idah David while addressing the members during a protest at Government House in Makurdi, commended the National Assembly for the passage of the bill for the establishment of the commission to accommodate states ravaged by Boko Haram and suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Mr. Idah stated that Benue was among states like Kano, Plateau, Borno among others that were reduced to rubbles by several attacks during which many people were killed and property worth billions of naira destroyed.
“This is why Kano and Plateau states have been included to be developed by this new Commission based on the persuasion of the senators and members of the House of Representatives from those states and who argued for their inclusion”.
He called on members of the National Assembly from Benue state to prevail on both the federal and state government to ensure the inclusion of the state among states due to covered in the commission.
Governor Ortom while addressing the protesters, commended them for the orderly manner they conducted themselves in presenting their grievances.
The governor who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Terwase Orbunde said Benue was among states in the country that suffered series of attacks by insurgents as 13 local government areas were affected.
He assured them that he would take their grievances to the presidency for necessary action.
