Katsina State House of Assembly has passed into law a Bill seeking for the establishment of the state Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
The Speaker, Aliyu Sabiu Muduri, announced this after the lawmakers unanimously adopted the report of the special committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki.
The Speaker directed the Clerk and the Legal Department to produce a clean copy and forward it to the governor for his assent.
Presenting the report, Alhaji Tafoki said while at the committee level, the Bill was subjected to necessarily legislative procedures before the final report was completed and presented.
He said upon concluding clause by clause analysis of the Bill, a public hearing was organised where over 20 government and private bodies participated meaningfully. He explained that when passed into law, the Commission shall ensure objective and prudent management of state resources. It will further facilitate long fiscal term in micro-economic stability and ensure accountability and transparency in fiscal operations.
He added that the proposed Commission would have the power to compel any person or government institutions to disclose information relating to public revenue and expenditure.
Tafoki also highlighted the objectives of the proposed commission as it relates medium term expenditure framework.
