Kidnappers have taken control of Basirka/Gwaram forest in Jigawa State, abducting and killing innocent people in Galambi, Fagam and Basirka District of Gwaram Local government Area. This has become the order of the day and has graduated to frightening dimension in the last two weeks.
No fewer than 25 people have been kidnapped so far and taken to unknown destination with demand for millions of naira as ransom according reliable sources.
it has been revealed that the issue of taking away innocent persons in the areas has been a threat to residents, a situation which forced many to flee their ancestral homes to seek for shelter in neighbouring villages in Bauchi State in order to save their lives.
One of the victims, who was kidnapped but regained freedom and later spoke in confidence, said within the last one week, no fewer than 30 people have been abducted, adding that the kidnappers had rustled over 100 cattles belonging to one Tambai of Sabon Garin Maizengu.
“I learned that the abductors have perpetuate their heinous crime even in day light and entered Fulani settlements to abduct their wives, children, old men and took away their animals at will”, he said.
The kidnappers were said to stormed Indabo and killed, Ugu Haru and another victim, Haruna.
Further investigation revealed that the culprits go to the extent of killing house holds members without carting away anything while sometimes they rustle cattle and go free.
It was learnt that the problem of abducting people in Gwaram Local Government was not a new thing, because about three months ago, police have arrested a gang of Fulani young men of ages between 25 and 30 years who abducted some children and kept them in a cave in the forest of Basirka.
Confirming the story, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Command, DSP Abdul Jinjiri, said the Command was fully aware that there were kidnappers in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state bordering Bauchi State.
