Ochiedike Medical And Dialysis Centre

Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Centre is a specialized healthcare centre established by the administration of His Excellency, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha in 2013. It is located along Concorde Avenue in the heart of Owerri town. The centre is a world-class medical, Dialysis and Diagnostic Centre which has facilities that cater for all kinds of laboratory diagnosis services. The center was formerly a diagnostic center but was upgraded by the state government to a medical center early 2016 to cater for more medical needs of the people. Austin Uzor Johnson was at the centre for an on-the-spot assessment.

The establishment of the Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Center came as a challenge to the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okoracha, after the death of his father due to urinal complications. The governor took it upon himself to help those with such challenges by establishing Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Centre. Dr Nwachukwu is the Executive Director of the center. Under his leadership, with the assistance of  Imo State Ministry of Health, the Center can boast of some state of the art facilities including ten (10) standards dialysis beds, a computed tomography (CT scan) machine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Machine, Ultrasound and Mammography machine, diagnostic machines, and a Blood laboratory well-equipped with modern devices.

At the moment, Ochiedike Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Machine is the only one in the South-eastern geo-political zone. The Center has good number of staff that man the equipments. It also employs international industry standards to provide health-care services to its teeming clients in the state and the neighbouring eastern states, including Edo state patients who also may require medical diagnosis.

Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Centre also attends to Road Traffic Accident Patients to save lives. To that effect, the centre have commenced rendering 24-hour services to the people.

Among the services rendered by the Ochiedike Center is free prostate and breast cancer screening tests. With modern facilities in place and the medical team at the center, most people of Imo state and others states have no need going to India on medical treatment. Some citizens of the state called the center “Rochas Okorocha’s Legacy Center”

In the words of the Executive Director of the Center, “We are here to provide Imolites with quality diagnostic services to improve the health consciousness of the indigenes and Nigerians in general”.

With construction work ongoing for the medical unit to cater for maternal and child health, epidemiology and other related health issues, no doubt, the Ochiedike Center is contributing to the wellbeing of the people. From being a healthcare providers to government organization, the center is bringing a lasting solution to diagnostic issues to assist other hospitals that do not have such facilities.

Because of the love of the state governor for the peoples’ wellbeing, he made it as a policy that even the cost for accessing these facilities are relatively cheap, as compared to that of the general hospitals in the state. For the citizens of the state who cannot afford the bills, the state government through the Imo state Foundation settles their bills after confirmation of their indigeneship.

”The Governor Rochas administration has not only taken care of the people locally, but has also taken some of the people with chronic cases abroad for kidney transplant” says a beneficiary.

However, the only major challenge confronting the Center, just as others in Nigeria, is the lack of technicians to handle or service the equipment when they break down. In most cases, technicians are brought in from Germany, Turkey or United States of America to service the machines. On the other hand, the Imo State Government is working hard to ensure that the center is adequately equipped with machines and technicians to make it a one-stop medical center.

The Ochiedike Medical and Dialysis Center is second to known with best facilities in Nigeria. Take advantage of these services and stay healthy!
