OPINION: Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s Letter And Antics Of An Opportunist

Usman Santuraki

The letter written by Governor Nasir El-Rufai couple of months ago, but only leaked recently speak volume on the king of leaders, we have, that are nothing rather than mere opportunists.

In the letter, the Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who some time says, that he was the person, that exerted pressure to run for the presidency for the fourth time decended heavily on the President Muhammadu Buhari, by saying, that he has failed the people of this country.

He criticised the present ruling party and the President Muhammadu Buhari, for worsening the situation in Nigeria than how they met it. The 30 page letter written by Governor Nasir El-Rufai admitted that the current administration had failed in many areas especially in the fight against Boko Haram. He said, that the President Muhammadu Buhari, and the APC administration has not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected’change’ but has failed to deliver mundane matters of governance outside of our successes in fighting BH insurgency and corruption.

It is the handiwork of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, to turn his back on his benefactor.

Therefore, it is no surprising, to now see the true colour of this opportunist as he has done similar to the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, whom when going is good between them described the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as his mentor. And when things fell apart between them, he was at the forefront calling the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar names. The same thing with his former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he called different names in his widely acclaimed book’Accidental Civil Servant. Put down his name in different chapters casting aspersion on the personality of Chief Olusegun.

President Muhammadu Buhari, allow some unscrupulous and shameless individuals to surround him during and after the election. Among these class of individuals is Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his likes are not on the same page with President Muhammadu Buhari, in all ramifications. President Muhammadu Buhari, because of his popularity in the eyes of the common man and woman become the ladder in which the likes of Governor Nasir El-Rufai use to ascend leadership positions. He is a person, known for courting controversies especially looking at his pedigree as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and as the Director-General, Bureau for Public Enterprise too.

Nobody could believe, that as a person so close to President Muhammadu Buhari, he would be the first to fire salvos on the President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had great penchant to always be on collision course with his bosses at the slightest provocation more especially, that he want if the President Muhammadu Buhari, is not going for second term to support his aspiration and probably the cabal in the presidency are not disposed to his aspiration.

He is a mere opportunist that use the acceptability and popularity of the President Muhammadu Buhari, to ascend the mantle of leadership of Kaduna State in 2015. He now want to ridicule the President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration in the eyes of the people quite similar

how he did to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

This is the antics of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, because he is an opportunist.

It is imperative from the President Muhammadu Buhari, to ponder on the kind of associates that are with him. Some are using his acceptability and popularity in the eyes of the people as ladder to

ascend leadership position of authority and not, that they share the same thing in common.

This is very important as we are approaching 2019. The reason why Governor Nasir El-Rufai fire the salvos may not be unconnected with his aspiration if the President Muhammadu Buhari may not go for second term and there is likelihood, that he is quite disposed to the Governor Nasir’s bid.
